This center is so important to A Glimmer of Hope Foundation. It is the first center in Western Pennsylvania that is dedicated to treating metastatic breast cancer. We are hopeful that with this new center this type of breast cancer will get the attention it deserves. The women who are living every single day with metastatic breast cancer, please know that GOH is here for you.
GOH has been able to continue to support much needed research at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center through COVID-19. Below is a short synopsis of Dr. Vera Donnenberg’s work. Thank you to our sponsors for continuously supporting us. However, now is the time to ramp up our efforts and aggressively raise funds for breast cancer research.
GOH Funded Study: Immunotherapy is effective in a proportion of Metastatic Breast Cancer patients, but not those with pleural effusions. We are working toward a new approach to immunotherapy that combines delivery of immunotherapy drugs into the pleural space with activating a patient’s own immune cells and then reinfusing them. This will give MBC patients the help that they need.
Our Home for Hope program is at the Wexford Health and Wellness Pavilion and West Penn Hospital. This program includes massage therapy, acupuncture, nutritional counseling, free child care at Austin's Play Room, and transportation.
Integrative Medicine Services at UPMC includes massage therapy while incorporating traditional treatments aimed at healing the mind, body, and spirit.
