"HOMES FOR THE CURE" HAS JOINED FORCES WITH LOCAL REAL ESTATE AGENTS TO HELP FIGHT BREAST CANCER A Glimmer of Hope foundation is pleased to announce their “Homes for the Cure” project, which provides support and funding for the largest under-40 breast cancer study in the country. “The first house in the project is the Pittsburgh-area home of former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Alan Faneca,” said Diana Napper, the foundations president. “The Glimmer of Hope Foundation is a cause that is close to our hearts,” Julie Faneca said. “We want to continue supporting the research for a cure until it is found. In the “Homes for the Cure” project, a percentage of the sales price will be donated to A Glimmer of Hope to help fund the under-40 breast cancer study, and the home buyer will receive a 100% tax deduction for that amount. An open house will be held at the Faneca’s Wexford home on Saturday, October 18, 2008. “Ultimately, we will all be helping The Glimmer of Hope to raise money for Cancer research for woman under 40 years of age. If we can help meet those needs, we will have met our goal,” Said Nancy Evans one of the listing agents on the first house in the program. “On behalf of the board of directors at Magee-Womens Research Institute and Foundation, we are so very thankful to Alan and Julie Faneca, and to Diana Napper, for their longstanding and steadfast support of the very exciting and cutting-edge breast cancer research being done at MWRI,” said Margaret Joy, chair of the Magee-Womens Research Institute & Foundation. “This type of research, as well as the studies on many areas of historically under funded women's and infants' health research, absolutely depends on the financial support of our community, and of everyone who has a mother, daughter, granddaughter, sister or female friend.” “A Glimmer of Hope is a fantastic foundation that is currently funding the largest pre-menopausal study on breast cancer in the United States. They have been very generous and devoted to this cause, and we are very grateful that Magee has been able to collaborate with them on this project,” said Paniti Sukumvanich, M.D., assistant professor of the department of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences in the division of gynecologic oncology at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC.
